Universities and the SDGs

Universities have a unique and critical role in helping the world achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through their research, teaching, operations and community leadership. This SDSN Australia/Pacific area of work aims to mobilise universities to contribute to the SDGs and highlight the importance of the sector in local, national and international implementation.

SDG localisation

Since its inception in 2013, SDSN Australia/Pacific has led and participated in a wide range of activities to foster leadership in the local and national implementation of the SDGs in our region and beyond. Our focus has been on capacity building across all levels, creating cross-sector dialogue and action, and identifying the opportunities that engagement with the SDGs brings.

Participation in global SDSN initiatives

SDSN members in the region are contributing to a number of global SDSN initiatives, in particular the Deep Decarbonisation Pathways Project (DDPP) and the Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land Use and Energy (FABLE) Pathways Consortium.

SDSN Youth

SDSN Youth started as an SDSN AusNZPac initiative and is now part of the global SDSN. It aims to amplify the tremendous energy and capabilities of youth in generating broader buy-in for the SDGs. SDSN Youth AusNZPac focusses on engaging young people and university students in the region on the SDGs, and promoting the role of youth in achieving the SDGs.
