About this forum: Engaging staff on the SDGs
The SDGs offer an important framework for universities, Higher Ed Institutions and other organisations to increase their contribution to solving the world’s sustainable development challenges through research, learning and teaching, operations, and community leadership.
But for this to happen, we need to build support for the SDGs and SDG-related action by staff across the university, beyond the usual areas that focus on sustainability or sustainable development – including, for example, researchers, teaching staff, university leadership, and central services (libraries, reporting, marketing & communications, student leadership programs, etc.).
Many SDSN and ACTS members have started engagement processes to build this support – involving, for example, activities such as raising staff awareness of the SDGs and their importance, identifying the opportunities and contributions that the organisation and staff can make to the SDGs, and developing mechanisms to support SDG implementation.
The aim of this session is to share approaches participants have taken to engage staff across their organisations on the SDGs, discuss barriers and successes, and distil lessons and recommendations to help in planning future engagement activities.
* The EOI process helps us design the session to ensure it responds to participants’ interests and experience. Depending on technological limitations we may also need to cap the number of participants.
About the Accelerating SDG Practice forum series
Accelerating SDG Practice is a series of online discussion forums that aims to support universities, higher education institutions, and knowledge institutions in our region to strengthen their engagement with the SDGs. The forums provide a place to share experiences, collaborate on problem solving, and identify learnings to help each other and the sector scale up action on the SDGs.
The series is a joint initiative of SDSN AusNZPac and the Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) and is open to all our member institutions. See here for further information about this initiative, including upcoming and past forums.
