SDSN AusNZPac and the Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) are pleased to announce the first in a bimonthly series of online discussion forums for member institutions on Accelerating SDG Practice.

In May 2017 SDSN AusNZPac and ACTS co-hosted a discussion forum and the first webinar globally on how universities, higher education institutions, and knowledge institutions can map how their activities – such as research, teaching and institutional policies – align to the SDGs. As a result of the webinar we also compiled and made public a list of SDG keywords, which have been shared extensively.

Two years later, many more institutions have undertaken SDG mapping initiatives, and many have tried out more ambitious and sophisticated approaches. But while the mapping concept is simple, the execution can be complex – and SDG mapping is still a hot topic in the sector.

The purpose of this forum is to share and learn from the new knowledge and expertise gained by our member institutions over the past two years, including about new approaches and new tools, challenges and how to overcome them, and new learnings and advice for institutions still at the early stage of such an endeavour.

We welcome anyone from SDSN AusNZPac and ACTS member institutions who has undertaken, is in the process of undertaking, or is about to undertake SDG mapping (of any area) at their institution to submit an EOI* for this session. If you know of anyone at your institution who is involved in this, please let them know about this forum.

* This forum is aimed at people actively involved in SDG mapping initiatives, and we want all or most participants to have an opportunity to contribute. For this to work we may need to structure the discussion in particular ways, or cap the number of participants. If you are interested in participating we invite you to submit an Expression of Interest, and we will get back to you shortly about next steps. This is the first time we are trying this format of event, so please bear with us as we identify the best ways to make it work!

The Accelerating SDG Practice forum series

Accelerating SDG Practice is a bimonthly series of joint online discussion forums for members of SDSN AusNZPac and the Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS). These forums are a place for staff at member institutions working on specific aspects of SDG implementation to share their experiences, collaborate on problem solving, and identify learnings to help each other and the sector scale up action on the SDGs. See here to find out more about the series, including how to propose topics for future forums.
